Pesticide Tolerances

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for regulating the pesticides used by growers to protect crops and for setting limits on the amount of pesticides that may remain in or on foods marketed in the U.S. These limits on pesticides left on foods are called “tolerances” in the U.S. (they are referred to as maximum residue limits, or MRLs, in many other countries). EPA establishes tolerances for each pesticide based on the potential risks to human health posed by that pesticide. Plant Protection and Quarantine

Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) is a program within the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) within the Department of Agriculture. PPQ safeguards agriculture and natural resources from the risks associated with the entry, establishment, or spread of animal and plant pests and noxious weeds to ensure an abundant, high-quality, and varied food supply. PPQ responds to many new introductions of plant pests to eradicate, suppress, or contain them through various programs in cooperation with state departments of agriculture and other government agencies. These may be emergency or longer term domestic programs that target a specific pest.

A port of entry (POE) is a place where one may lawfully enter the nation. International airports are usually ports of entry, as are road and rail crossings on a land border, and major seaports. U.S. Customs and Border Protection enforces the import and export regulations and immigration programs of the U.S. government. The Department of Agriculture also performs inspections to protect the U.S. from potential carriers of animal and plant pests or diseases that could cause serious damage to crops, livestock, pets, and the environment. Preventing Collisions at Sea (72 COLREGS)

The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGS) are published by the International Maritime Organization and are recognized as the navigation rules followed internationally by ships and other vessels at sea. Under this agreement, each signatory nation is obligated to comply with the COLREGS as closely as possible. The Departments of Defense and Commerce, as well as the Coast Guard within the Department of Homeland Security publish regulations to ensure U.S. compliance with the COLREGS. The Coast Guard and the Navy frequently publish alternative compliance requirements or certifications for vessels of special construction that do not fully comply with COLREGS provisions.

Privacy Act Notices & Regs

The Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a) governs the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of personally identifiable information about individuals in systems of records (SORNs) maintained by Federal agencies. A system of records is an agency record-keeping system which contains information that can be retrieved by the name of the individual or by some other personal identifier. The Privacy Act requires that agencies give the public notice of their systems of records by publication in the Federal Register. The Privacy Act prohibits the disclosure of personal information about an individual without the written consent of the individual, unless the disclosure is permitted under one of twelve statutory exceptions. The Act also gives individuals the right to gain access to their records and ask that they be amended.

Public Land Orders

Public Land Orders (PLO) implement the authority granted to the Secretary of the Interior by the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 to make, modify, extend, or revoke land withdrawals. A withdrawal removes an area of Federal land from settlement, sale, location, or entry under some or all of the general land laws, for the purpose of limiting activities under those laws to maintain other public values in the area or reserving the area for a particular public purpose or program. Withdrawals are also used to transfer jurisdiction over an area of Federal land from one department, bureau, or agency to another. The majority of public lands in the U.S. are held in trust for the American people by the Federal government and managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the United States National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation, or the Fish and Wildlife Service under the Department of the Interior, or the United States Forest Service under the Department of Agriculture. Other federal agencies that manage public lands include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the United States Department of Defense, which includes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

This listing contains the name of each individual losing their United States citizenship (within the meaning of section 877(a) or 877A) with respect to whom the Secretary received information on a quarterly basis. The expatriation tax provisions under Section 877 and Section 877A of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) apply to US citizens who have renounced their citizenship and long-term residents (as defined in IRC 877(e)) who have ended their US resident status for federal tax purposes.

Radio & Television Broadcasting Services

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and its Media Bureau regulate broadcast radio and television stations. The Audio Division of the Media Bureau licenses commercial and noncommercial educational AM, FM, FM Translator, and FM Booster radio services, and also the noncommercial educational Low Power FM radio service. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), enacted in 1976, is the principal Federal law in the U.S. governing the disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste. RCRA amended the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965 to address the increasing problems the nation faced from its growing volume of municipal and industrial waste. It set national goals for protecting human health and the natural environment from the potential hazards of waste disposal; conserving energy and natural resources; reducing the amount of waste generated through source reduction and recycling; and ensuring the management of waste in an environmentally sound manner.

Sentencing Guidelines

The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are rules established by the United States Sentencing Commission. The that set out a uniform sentencing policy for individuals and organizations convicted of felonies and serious misdemeanors in the U.S. Federal courts system. The primary goal of the Guidelines is to alleviate sentencing disparities that research had indicated was prevalent in the existing sentencing system, and the guidelines reform was specifically intended to provide for determinate sentencing.

Social Security Rulings (SSRs) are a series of precedential decisions relating to the programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). SSRs may be based on case decisions made at all administrative levels of adjudication, such as Federal court decisions, Commissioner's decisions, opinions of the Office of the General Counsel, as well as policy interpretations of the law and regulations. Acquiescence Rulings (ARs) explain how SSA will apply a holding by a United States Court of Appeals that is at variance with SSA's national policies for adjudicating claims. Standard Instrument Approach Procedures

The Federal Aviation Administration establishes, amends, suspends, or revokes Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs) and associated Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure Procedures for operations at certain airports. SIAPs are frequently revised because of changes to the National Airspace System, such as new navigational facilities, new obstacles, or changes in air traffic requirements. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. states and territories are responsible for implementing the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), which governs the disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste.
